Do Dentists Offer Sedation? | Find Comfortable Care in Wayne, NJ

When undergoing surgery, a doctor will likely numb your treatment area. Additionally, depending on the surgery, you may receive an anesthetic that either relaxes you or puts you to sleep for the duration of your procedure. But many patients wonder: Do dentists offer sedation as well? And the answer is yes! Most dentists do offer some form of sedation dentistry to help patients relax throughout a procedure.

At Fine Dental Care, your comfort is our priority. To improve your experience at the dentist, we offer safe and effective sedation options.

Why Do Dentists Offer Sedation?

Dentophobia is a fear of the dentist. Often, this fear is triggered by the sounds at the dentist’s office, or even just the thought of attending an appointment.

While not everyone is afraid of the dentist, many patients have bad experiences that make them wary of routine dental visits. Fortunately, sedation can help!

By strategically using sedation dentistry, we create positive experiences at the dentist. These visits help pacientes como tú overcome their fear of the dentist and get the treatments they need with less hassle.

Typically, sedation is used for more intensive treatments, like oral surgeries.

However, for some patients, even attending routine dental visits can incite panic. If you’re concerned about visiting the dentist, call to discuss sedation options that help alleviate your fear.

Our Sedation Options

At Fine Dental Care, we treat your comfort as a priority. We aim to make every dental visit with us comfortable and relaxing, keeping a friendly atmosphere throughout the office.

To keep patients with dental anxiety comfortable, we offer three effective sedation options.

  • Óxido nitroso: This gas, also known as laughing gas, helps keep patients relaxed throughout their procedure. After inhaling the gas through a mouth or a nosepiece, you will immediately begin to feel relaxation set in. While you’ll remain awake and alert throughout the procedure, you’ll feel a deep sense of calm. Then, once we’re done, you’ll inhale oxygen through the mask to flush the gas out of your system.
  • Sedación consciente oral: Rather than sedating you at the office, this method involves prescribing you a pill to take before you get here. By the time you arrive, you should already feel a sense of calm. Similar to nitrous oxide, you will still be able to listen to directions, but the relaxing effect will be deeper and last longer. After your appointment, have someone you trust drive you home, and wait for the sedation to wear off.
  • General anesthesia: For those who need a more intense sedation option, we also offer general anesthesia. We will have a dental anesthesiologist come to our office to safely administer the treatment while monitoring your vital signs throughout the process. This sedation puts you directly to sleep, making sure you don’t feel or remember a thing throughout the procedure.
